Verrazano Bridge

This bridge was built between 1958 à 1964 par O.H. Ammann and Whitney. The main construction is 2,039 m long, and its total length is 4,176 m. Its width is 33 m. It is a suspension bridge with two levels (which brings the number of traffic lanes to 12). The central span is 1,298 m long. Up till 1981 it was the longest span in the world. The steel towers are 207 m high.

Verrazano is the name of an Italian navigator who was the first European to enter the bay of New-York. This construction, the last carried out by the renowned Amman, was awarded the first prize by the American Institute of Steel Construction in 1965.
