Although
its head office is in Paris, a short distance away from
the well-known "boulevard périphérique", the French Public
Works Research Laboratory does not suffer from an excessive
contralism as far as its sites are concerned...
To the East of Paris, in the centre of the new town of
Marne-la-Vallée, is the Joint Research Laobratory UMR-Navier, made up
of the Soil Mechanics Teaching and Research Centre (CERMES)
or Centre d’Enseignement et de Recherche en mécanique
des Sols, the Laboratory for Materials and Structures
in Civil Engineering (LMSGC)
or Laboratoire des Matériaux et des Structures
du Génie Civil , and the Laboratory for Material
Analysis and Identification (LAMI)
or Laboratoire d’Analyse des Matériaux et d’Identification.
To the West of Paris is the Laboratory for Vehicle-Infrastructure-Driver Interactions (LIVIC) which is located near Versailles in the former army camp of Satory next to the tank test tracks once operated by GIAT industrie.
Lastly, much further to the South-West, at the gateway to Brittany in the Pays-de-la-Loire Region, the Nantes site (which is in fact located in the district of Bouguenais) houses the LCPC’s largest facilities and almost half of its staff.
Old city, new town, countryside: the LCPC is located and works at the heart of the environments it studies...
